3rd Grade Place Value Worksheets: Expanded Form, Comparing, and Rounding to 10,000

Expanded form, the value of each digit, comparing to 10,000, and rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 on number lines.

What students practice

Ten practice pages take place value from hundreds up to ten thousands. Students write numbers in expanded form with a box for every place, zeros included, find what a single digit is worth, compare with >, <, and =, and round to the nearest ten or hundred on number lines. Rounding stays within 1,000, as 3.NR.1.3 sets, and halfway rounds up. Word form is left out on purpose, because 3.NR.1.1 names base-ten numerals and expanded form only.

Think: 347 = 300 + 40 + 7. Each digit tells how many of that place.

Who it's for

Grade 3 classes opening the year with place value, small groups that need more rounding on a number line, and homeschool families who want expanded form and rounding kept to what the Georgia element asks. The rounding pages print number line endpoints for the first three items only, so later items ask students to set up the line themselves.
