Georgia Grade 3 math, Numerical Reasoning

3.NR.1.1 worksheets: read and write numbers to 10,000 in expanded form

The standard

Read and write multi-digit whole numbers up to 10,000 using base-ten numerals and expanded form.

Element 3.NR.1.1 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Numerical Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 3.NR.1: Use place value reasoning to represent, read, write, and compare numerical values up to 10,000 and round whole numbers up to 1,000.

What students practice

Students write 3- and 4-digit numbers in expanded form and back again, with a box for every place so a zero holds its place: the key shows 4,068 = 4,000 + 0 + 60 + 8. A separate page asks what one digit is worth, and a page of numbers from everyday life mixes expanding with comparing and rounding. Word form is not practiced, since the element names base-ten numerals and expanded form.
