What students practice
Students sort pairs of segments as parallel, perpendicular, or neither, draw their own from a dot, mark right angles, and find square corners on a street map. Then they name corners as acute, right, or obtuse, name quadrilaterals from their side and angle marks, check properties in a table, trace the faces of solid shapes, and find and draw lines of symmetry on dot grids.
What's inside
- p. 3
Parallel or Perpendicular?
Look at each pair of segments, then circle parallel, perpendicular, or neither.
- p. 4
Draw Parallel and Perpendicular
Draw a segment that starts at the big dot and follows the rule in each box.
- p. 5
Right Angles and Parallel Sides
Mark each right angle with a small square, then fill in both boxes.
- p. 6
Could It Be?
Circle yes or no for each question, and if yes, draw one on the dots.
- p. 7
Lines on a Map
Use the street map to answer each question.
- p. 8
Acute, Right, or Obtuse?
Compare the corner with the curve to a square corner, then circle its name.
- p. 9
Name the Quadrilateral
Use the marks and the sides to circle the name of each quadrilateral.
- p. 10
Check the Properties
Put a check in each box that is true for the shape in that row.
- p. 11
Faces of Solid Shapes
Trace the striped face in your mind, then circle the shape it makes.
- p. 12
Is It a Line of Symmetry?
Fold each shape on the dashed line in your mind, then circle yes or no.
- p. 13
Draw Lines of Symmetry
Draw every line of symmetry, then write how many lines you drew.
- p. 14
Mixed Review
Read each problem, then solve.
Think: 2 segments that go over 3, up 1 never meet, so they are parallel.
Georgia standards covered
3.GSR.6.1
Identify perpendicular line segments, parallel line segments, and right angles, identify these in polygons, and solve problems involving parallel line segments, perpendicular line segments, and right angles.
In this packet: pages 3 to 7 and 14. 3.GSR.6.1 practice in all our packets
3.GSR.6.2
Classify, compare, and contrast polygons, with a focus on quadrilaterals, based on properties. Analyze specific 3-dimensional figures to identify and describe quadrilaterals as faces of these figures.
In this packet: pages 8 to 11 and 14. 3.GSR.6.2 practice in all our packets
3.GSR.6.3
Identify lines of symmetry in polygons.
In this packet: pages 12 to 14. 3.GSR.6.3 practice in all our packets
Who it's for
Grade 3 classes on polygon attributes. Every naming item has exactly one name that fits, no page asks for a hierarchy of shapes, and there is no partitioning into equal parts, which Georgia places with fractions.
