6.PAR.8.2 worksheets: signs of ordered pairs and the quadrants

The standard

Show and explain that signs of numbers in ordered pairs indicate locations in quadrants of the coordinate plane and determine how two ordered pairs may differ based only on the signs.

Element 6.PAR.8.2 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Patterning & Algebraic Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 6.PAR.8: Graph rational numbers as points on the coordinate plane to represent and solve contextual, mathematical problems; draw polygons using the coordinates for their vertices and find the length of a side of a polygon.

What students practice

Students name the sign of each coordinate, name the quadrant with a Roman numeral, and change the sign of x, of y, or of both. Items ask which axis is between two points and which pairs differ only in their signs.
