6.PAR.8.1 worksheets: rational numbers on lines and the plane

The standard

Locate and position rational numbers on a horizontal or vertical number line; find and position pairs of integers and other rational numbers on a coordinate plane.

Element 6.PAR.8.1 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Patterning & Algebraic Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 6.PAR.8: Graph rational numbers as points on the coordinate plane to represent and solve contextual, mathematical problems; draw polygons using the coordinates for their vertices and find the length of a side of a polygon.

What students practice

Students read and plot rational numbers on horizontal and vertical number lines, then read and plot ordered pairs in all four quadrants. One page uses halves, written as fractions and as decimals. Other grid points are integers.

  • p. 3Number Lines, Across and Up. Write the number at each lettered point, then plot and label the numbers in 4 and 5.
  • p. 4Read Points in All Four Quadrants. Write the ordered pair for each point on the grid.
  • p. 5Plot Points in All Four Quadrants. Plot and label each point on the grid.
  • p. 6Halves on the Coordinate Plane. Write the ordered pair for points A to D, then plot and label points E to H.
  • p. 14Mixed Review. Solve each problem, then check your work.

Think: each small square is half a unit, so 3 small squares left of 0 is −1.5.
