4.NR.4.3 worksheets: compare fractions with benchmarks and common denominators

The standard

Compare two fractions with different numerators and/or different denominators by flexibly using a variety of tools and strategies and recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole.

Element 4.NR.4.3 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Numerical Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 4.NR.4: Solve real-life problems involving addition, subtraction, equivalence, and comparison of fractions with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 100 using part-whole strategies and visual models.

What students practice

Students compare each fraction with 0, one half, or 1, rename both fractions with a common denominator or a common numerator, and compare by the missing part to 1. The word problems have a work area for the renaming, and every page checks that the two fractions refer to the same whole.

Where to find it

  • p. 9Compare With Benchmarks. Compare each fraction to the benchmark, then compare the two fractions.
  • p. 10Common Denominators. Rename both fractions with the same denominator, then compare.
  • p. 11Common Numerators. Rename both fractions with the same numerator, then compare.
  • p. 12Missing Parts to 1. Write how much each fraction needs to make 1, then compare.
  • p. 14Mixed Review. Use any strategy from this packet.
