3.NR.4.4 worksheets: recognize and generate equivalent fractions

The standard

Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions.

Element 3.NR.4.4 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Numerical Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 3.NR.4: Represent fractions with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 in multiple ways within a framework using visual models.

What students practice

Students decide whether two fractions are equivalent, shade one bar to match another, line up pieces on a fraction wall, and find the same point on two number lines. One page writes whole numbers as fractions, and story problems show equal amounts with different pieces. Denominators stay at 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8.

Where to find it

  • p. 8Equivalent or Not?. Circle yes if the two fractions are equivalent and no if they are not.
  • p. 9Shade to Match. Shade the bottom bar to match the top bar, then write the missing number.
  • p. 10Use the Fraction Wall. Use the fraction wall to find each missing number.
  • p. 11Equivalent on a Number Line. Find the same point on the bottom number line, then write the missing number.
  • p. 12Whole Numbers as Fractions. Use the shaded bars to write the missing number.
  • p. 13Equivalent Stories. Draw bars to show each story, then write the equivalent fractions.
  • p. 14Mixed Review. Read each section, then solve.
Strategy Spotlight from Fractions: Compare and Equivalent Fractions, page 8

Think: 2 fourths covers the same part as 1 half, so they are equivalent.
