Georgia Grade 3 math, Measurement & Data Reasoning

3.MDR.5.1 worksheets: pictographs, bar graphs, and dot plots

The standard

Ask questions and answer them based on gathered information, observations, and appropriate graphical displays to solve problems relevant to everyday life.

Element 3.MDR.5.1 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Measurement & Data Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 3.MDR.5: Solve real-life, mathematical problems involving length, liquid volume, mass, and time and analyze graphical displays of data to answer relevant questions.

What students practice

Every practice page in the Data packet. Students read and make pictographs with a key greater than 1, read and draw bar graphs with scales of 2, 5, and 10, and read and make whole-number dot plots. Questions ask how many, how many more, how many fewer, and how many in all, in one and two steps, and page 13 has students write their own question about a graph.

Where to find it

  • p. 3Read a Pictograph. Use the pictograph and its key to answer each question.
  • p. 4Make a Pictograph. Write the number for each tally, then draw circles to finish the pictograph.
  • p. 5Read a Bar Graph. Read the bar graph, then answer each question.
  • p. 6Draw the Bars. Draw a bar for each room on the graph, then answer the questions.
  • p. 7More, Fewer, In All. Read the bar graph, then solve each problem.
  • p. 8Read a Dot Plot. Use the dot plot to answer each question.
  • p. 9Make a Dot Plot. Draw one dot for each number in the list, then answer the question.
  • p. 10Choose a Key or Scale. Choose a key or a scale that fits the data.
  • p. 11Which Graph Matches?. Circle the graph that matches the table.
  • p. 12Pictograph Story. Use the pictograph to solve each problem.
  • p. 13Ask Your Own Question. Answer the questions, then write and answer your own question.
  • p. 14Mixed Review. Read each graph, then answer the questions.
Strategy Spotlight from Data, page 4

Think: each circle is 5 books, so 30 books is 30 รท 5 = 6 circles.
