What students practice
Students multiply on area models, where a part of a part is the cross-hatched cells, then multiply fractions and mixed numbers and predict whether a product or quotient is bigger or smaller before they compute. Division starts with how many fit, jumps on a number line, then renames both numbers in the same-size pieces and divides the piece counts. Students check quotients with missing-factor multiplication, solve recipe, garden, ribbon, and sharing problems, and finish with a self-checking code page and a Mixed Review.
What's inside
- p. 3
Area Models
Use the area model to multiply, and write the product in the box.
- p. 4
Multiply Fractions
Find each product.
- p. 5
Multiply Mixed Numbers
Find each product.
- p. 6
Bigger or Smaller?
Without multiplying or dividing, write < or > in each box, then check the ones that fit.
- p. 7
How Many Fit?
Show the jumps on the number line, then write the quotient in the box.

Divide Fractions
Find each quotient.
- p. 9
Divide Mixed Numbers
Find each quotient.
- p. 10
Multiply to Check
Find the missing number, then answer the last question.
- p. 11
Fraction Code
Find each answer in the code bank, then write its letter in the box.
- p. 12
Recipes and Gardens
Solve each problem, and write the answer in the box.
- p. 13

Solve each problem, and write the answer in the box.
- p. 14
Mixed Review
Solve each problem, then check your work.
Georgia standards covered
6.NR.1.2
Multiply and divide any combination of whole numbers, fractions, and mixed numbers using a student-selected strategy. Interpret products and quotients of fractions and solve word problems.
In this packet: pages 3 to 14. 6.NR.1.2 practice in all our packets
Who it's for
Grade 6 classes in the fractions unit, after adding and subtracting. Denominators are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12. A whole number times a fraction or a mixed number is Grade 5 work in Georgia, so every product here has two factors that are not whole numbers. No page teaches a trick to memorize, and any correct strategy is fine. Every answer key has a worked line under each answer.
See the format first, free. The free Grade 6 Math Sampler has one practice page from four units, each with its answer key.
