What students practice
Models come first. Students line up places on a place-value chart to add and subtract, estimate with whole numbers, read tenths times tenths on hatched hundred grids, split both factors on area models, and place the decimal point by reasoning about place value. Division starts with partial quotients, then a decimal divisor is scaled by 10 or 100 into a whole number, then long division by place. Word problems use all four operations, with a self-checking code page and a Mixed Review.
What's inside
- p. 3
Line Up the Places
Line up the place values, then add or subtract.
- p. 4
Estimate and Solve
Estimate items 1 and 2 with whole numbers, and find exact answers for 3 to 6.
- p. 5
Multiply on a Grid
Each grid is 1 whole: write the width, the height, and the product.
- p. 6
Area Models
Fill in each part of the area model, then add the parts.
- p. 7
Place the Decimal Point
Use place value or an estimate to place the decimal point.
- p. 8
Multiply Decimals
Multiply with any strategy that makes sense to you.
- p. 9
Partial Quotients
Split the number into parts you can divide, then add the quotients.
- p. 10
Divide by a Decimal
Make the divisor a whole number, then divide.
- p. 11
Long Division
Divide, and write a zero at the end of the dividend when you need one.
- p. 12
Decimals in Everyday Life
Decide which operation fits, then solve.
- p. 13
Decimal Code
Solve each problem, then use the code to spell the word.
- p. 14
Mixed Review
Use any strategy from this packet.
Think: 45.68 + 7.9 is 45.68 + 7.90, and the hundredths, tenths, and ones line up.

Who it's for
Grade 6 classes in the decimals unit. Every answer stops by the thousandths place, every quotient ends with no repeating decimals or rounding, and there are no negative numbers. Strategy pages name the model; the fluency pages say any strategy. Each answer key has a worked line under every answer.
See the format first, free. The free Grade 6 Math Sampler has one practice page from four units, each with its answer key.
