4.MDR.6.1 worksheets: elapsed time and metric measurement problems

Use number-line jumps and printed metric facts to solve Grade 4 time and measurement problems.

The standard

Use the four operations to solve problems involving elapsed time to the nearest minute, intervals of time, metric measurements of liquid volumes, lengths, distances, and masses of objects, including problems involving fractions with like denominators, and also problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit, and expressing a smaller unit in terms of a larger unit based on the idea of equivalence.

Element 4.MDR.6.1 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Measurement & Data Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 4.MDR.6: Measure time and objects that exist in the world to solve real-life, mathematical problems and analyze graphical displays of data to answer relevant questions.

What students practice

Students find elapsed minutes and unknown start or end times with open number lines, multiply and divide equal intervals, and solve two-step time stories. Metric pages fill two-column equivalence tables, express whole and mixed units from printed facts, read a gram dial and milliliter container, and solve measurement stories including like-denominator fraction measures. Pages 13 and 14 combine time and metric skills.

Where to find it

  • p. 3Minutes Between. Find the minutes between each start and end time.
  • p. 4Across the Hour. Find each elapsed time in minutes using the open number line.
  • p. 5Find the End Time. Find each end time and show your jumps on the number line.
  • p. 6Find the Start Time. Find each start time and show your jumps on the number line.
  • p. 7Time Stories. Solve each problem and label your answer in minutes.
  • p. 8Time Stories, Two Steps. Solve each problem and show both steps.
  • p. 9Equivalence Tables. Use each fact to fill the blanks in its two-column table.
  • p. 10Larger and Smaller Units. Use the facts to rename amounts and choose equivalent amounts.
  • p. 11Length and Distance. Solve each problem using the measurement facts when needed.
  • p. 12Mass and Liquid Volume. Read the marked measures and solve the two stories.
  • p. 13Measurement Code. Solve, then match each answer to a letter to reveal the word.
  • p. 14Mixed Review. Use the facts and show your thinking for each part.
