Georgia Grade 4 math, Geometric & Spatial Reasoning

4.GSR.8.2 worksheets: classify and compare polygons by sides, angles, and symmetry

Compare sides, corners, and fold lines to sort triangles, quadrilaterals, and pentagons.

The standard

Classify, compare, and contrast polygons based on lines of symmetry, the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular line segments, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size and based on side lengths.

Element 4.GSR.8.2 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Geometric & Spatial Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 4.GSR.8: Identify and draw geometric objects, classify polygons based on properties, and solve problems involving area and perimeter of rectangular figures.

What students practice

Sort and compare triangles, quadrilaterals, and pentagons by parallel sides, right angles, equal sides, and lines of symmetry. Read tick and square marks, compare pairs of shapes, and solve figure riddles. Two flagged trapezoid questions print Georgia's inclusive definition in the prompt; their keys identify that convention.

Where to find it

  • p. 8Sort by Properties. Test each shape on the dots, then write the numbers in its row.
  • p. 9Triangles. Use the tick marks and square marks to sort each triangle.
  • p. 10Quadrilaterals by Properties. Test the six shapes on the dots, then answer each question.
  • p. 11Same and Different. Compare the two shapes in each box, then answer both questions.
  • p. 12Which Shape Am I?. Read both clues, then fill in the bubble for the shape that fits.
  • p. 13Shape Code. Answer each question, then use the code to spell a word.
  • p. 14Mixed Review. Read each problem, then answer.
