6.PAR.7.1 worksheets: test values in equations and inequalities

The standard

Solve one-step equations and inequalities involving variables when values for the variables are given. Determine whether an equation and inequality involving a variable is true or false for a given value of the variable.

Element 6.PAR.7.1 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Patterning & Algebraic Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 6.PAR.7: Write and solve one-step equations and inequalities as mathematical models to explain authentic, realistic situations.

What students practice

In One-Step Equations, students substitute a value to decide true or false, pick the one value from a set that solves an equation, and check solved answers by putting them back in. In Inequalities, they decide whether a value is a solution, select every value in a set that works, and check a value against a story.

Where to find it

  • p. 3True or False?. Substitute the value into each equation, then circle True or False.
  • p. 4Solve From a Set. Test each value in the set, then write the one that makes the equation true.
  • p. 12Solve, Then Check. Solve each equation, then check your answer by substituting it.
  • p. 14Mixed Review. Solve each problem, then check your work.
