6.PAR.6.2 worksheets: greatest common factor and least common multiple

The standard

Determine greatest common factors and least common multiples using a variety of strategies to make sense of applicable problems.

Element 6.PAR.6.2 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Patterning & Algebraic Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 6.PAR.6: Identify, write, evaluate, and interpret numerical and algebraic expressions as mathematical models to explain relevant situations.

What students practice

Students list factors and finish prime factor trees to find the GCF of two numbers up to 100, list multiples to find the LCM of two numbers up to 12, and decode a hidden word from their answers. Word problems first ask whether things are shared equally or repeat until they meet, and one page writes a sum as the GCF times a sum.

Where to find it

  • p. 3Factors and the GCF. List the factors of each number, then write the greatest common factor.
  • p. 4Prime Factor Trees. Finish each factor tree, then use prime factors to find each GCF.
  • p. 5Multiples and the LCM. List multiples of each number, then write the least common multiple.
  • p. 6GCF and LCM Code. Find each GCF or LCM, then use the code to find the hidden word.
  • p. 7GCF and LCM Word Problems. Decide whether each problem needs a GCF or an LCM, then solve it.
  • p. 8Factor a Sum With the GCF. Write each sum as the GCF times a sum, then answer the last question.
  • p. 14Mixed Review. Solve each problem, then check your work.
Strategy Spotlight from Expressions: GCF, LCM, and Equivalent Expressions, page 5

Think: 3, 6, 9, 12 and 4, 8, 12 meet first at 12, so the LCM of 3 and 4 is 12.
