4.NR.5.1 worksheets: equivalent tenths and hundredths, and adding them

The standard

Demonstrate and explain the concept of equivalent fractions with denominators of 10 and 100, using concrete materials and visual models. Add two fractions with denominators of 10 and 100.

Element 4.NR.5.1 of Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards (2021, effective SY2023-24), in the Numerical Reasoning strand. It sits under standard 4.NR.5: Solve real-life problems involving addition, equivalence, comparison of fractions with denominators of 10 and 100, and comparison of decimal numbers as tenths and hundredths using part-whole strategies and visual models.

What students practice

Students write shaded hundred grids as tenths and as hundredths, shade a number of tenths, and fill in the missing numerator to make tenths and hundredths equal, including fractions greater than 1 and mixed numbers. To add a tenths fraction and a hundredths fraction, they rename the tenths as hundredths first, then add, on rows and in two stories about one whole.
